We are looking to hire a dynamic Maintenance and Tourism All Rounder to join our company. In this role, you will oversee and lead the maintenance procedures in our company. You will be required to ensure that all facilities and equipment are maintained in good condition and are functioning smoothly to reduce the risk of interruptions to the running of the business.

You will be required to supervise the day to day maintenance of the business, the maintenance teams, organize repairs, facilitate gear and equipment checks, arrange system maintenance inspections and repairs, facilitate basecamp, road maintenance & vehicles checks as well as other ad hoc tasks. You will also be required to manage tasks, such as tracking expenses and report progress updates to owners. We require a top-notch candidate that has excellent supervisory and budgeting skills and can communicate with staff and other personnel effectively.

Responsibilities:

1. Establish and maintain respectful and good working relationships with all staff.

2. Establish and maintain good communication with the management chain.

3. Be able to function as the on-site manager when needed, overseeing staff and day-to-day operations, and interact with guests.

4.Maintaining a high standard of customer service according to company operating procedures.

5. Maintain appropriate systems to monitor, evaluate and report on all the operational departments.

6. Keep abreast of industry operational updates, what is new / systems available / potential to implement within the business / Public liability insurance requirements and updates.

7. Draw up and maintain functional maintenance budget, monthly reporting to management line. Find ways to reduce operating costs and conserve energy.

8. Communicate effectively and clearly at the weekly management meeting on maintenance tasks, or operational concerns.

9. Ensure all operational activities meet health and safety, legal, environmental, and general duty of care standards, be they national, local or organizational.

10. Maintain equipment log available to all departments with clear systems for retired gear or gear to be repaired. Monitoring, regular check / maintenance repair and reorder

11. Ensure ongoing maintenance of the basecamp and the grounds. Everything is to be neat and well organized with systems for the check in and check out of tools for maintenance teams.

12. Maintain vehicle log available to all departments with clear systems for expenditure and solutions for replacements.

13. Maintain maintenance log for both system and road, this needs to be available to all departments with clear systems for monitoring rate of repair, possible cause of repair, forecasts and budgets.

14. Should not be afraid of heights. Willing to learn rope skills / mountain rescue / working at heights

15. Additional adhoc tasks to assist with the smooth running of the business.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management / tourism management.
  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Supervisor

· Practical-minded: Familiarity with vehicles, plumbing, electrical, waste systems; working in the adventure tourism industry a HUGE plus

· Not required, but big plus (can be trained): Rope skills / mountain rescue / working at height

· Experience in administrative processes (e.g. budgeting, performance management, excel and Microsoft office)

· Ability to spot safety risks and address needs quickly.

  • Exceptional knowledge of standard tourism & hospitality practices and procedures.
  • Solid knowledge of customer service and the ability to resolve conflict in a calm and professional manner.

· Excellent supervisory skills and the ability to lead, motivate, and communicate with staff members.

· The ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

· Quick problem solver with good critical thinking skills

· Available to commute (we are based in Grabouw, Western Cape)

· Available to work 3 weekends a month, tourism industry hours.

· Excellent organizational skills.

· Own reliable vehicle (essential)

· Driver’s licence essential (PDP beneficial)
